The one change that turned my social media views into signups
80,900 views got me zero signups. Then I switched strategies.
80,900 people saw my social media post promoting my new software. 10 people visited my website. 0 people signed up.
Then I changed one thing, and five people signed up from a single post.
The sign-up was for the beta test of Yappy, the AI social media growth agent I built, which I announced last week.
A big wave of people signed up right away. But what I’m even more excited about is that a week later, people are still signing up every day from my social media posts.
That means I have consistent organic distribution before my product is even finished. And if you are a founder, you know lack of distribution is what kills most startups.
I meet so many founders on X and Threads who struggle to get anyone to use their product from social media.
They struggle with one of two things: not getting views, or not turning those views into signups or customers.
I’ve talked a lot about the first problem, but the second is just as important. Views alone don’t do anything.
Once you capture someone’s attention, you have to get them to take action, or you’ve wasted your time.
Most founders spend almost all their time getting views and ignore the process that turns views into customers.
So I studied what the top founders do to turn their social media content into customers.
They all use the same strategy: they post content that attracts the right people, then drop a comment on their best-performing posts asking their audience to do something.
You cannot just post, “Here is my great product, and here is the link to buy it.” You will get ignored.
The social media algorithms decide how many people see your post. They are optimized to keep people on the platform, so they often suppress posts with links.
But if you put the same thing in a comment, the algorithms don’t care as much, and that is your opportunity.
That helps, but it doesn’t fully solve the problem. When I put a link to my beta signup page in the comments of a post that got 80,900 views, only 10 people clicked it, and nobody signed up (I know the numbers this precisely because Yappy tracks them for me).
I made one small tweak, and my results completely changed.
Instead of a link, I told people to DM me to join the beta test.
Five people signed up from the first post I tried it on.
My post said:
And I commented on my post saying:
The only thing I changed was asking people to DM me instead of clicking a link.
Now I’m focused on using the DM method to turn social media views into customers.
That is how I get new software signups every day from social media without spending anything on ads, which means I don’t have to worry about distribution.
What’s working in early-stage go-to-market right now.
